Conspiracy by Paramore (Chpt. 21-25)

This song suits this chapter. Throughout the trial, nothing seemed to be going Tom Robinson’s way. The jury was against him from the start, for being a man of color. If they would have listened and given him a chance, his death would have never occurred. Their was always a conspiracy working against him.

The Verdict (Chpt. 21-25)

May 25th, 2009

The trial of Tom Robinson showed how racist America was. Even after knowing Bob Ewell conducted the crime against Mayella, the jury accused Tom Robinson of rape. I am sure the jury was only of white people, none of color. Sure, they took awhile to come to a conclusion of Tom Robinson’s verdict. That may have all been show to make Scout, Jem, and Dill assume things. Racism in Maycomb was highly apparent. Sure, this town may be peaceful and neighbors get along all the time. When it comes down to strict business, that doesn’t show. They were stuck in old habits and were stubborn to change their ways.

On a more touching side was people of color thanking Atticus. He worked hard on the trial, sacrificing a lot. If more people were like this, the situation in Maycomb would be a lot better. Even today people are still very racist. What is the point? It only gets people falsely accused of what happened. Aunt Alexandra is not a positive influence on Jem and Scout. She probably despises them for being on Tom Robinson’s side. That is probably the main reason she moved to Maycomb, thinking she was highly needed help because of this.

*sorry, I originally typed the wrong chapter number.

The Trial. Chapters (17-20)

May 21st, 2009

Atticus is fighting hard to defend Tom Robinson in the Mayella Case. As of right now Atticus is winning the case. The only thing left to do is decide if Tom Robinson is guilty or innocent. The reason for Tom Robinson being accused is of atacking Mayella, the thing that Atticus brought up was that Tom has his left hand disabled so he can not do anything to the right side. But the bruises on Mayella’s face were on her right side, so Tom couldn’t have done anything to Mayella because he couldn’t strike her. That fact right there put the jury to rest for a little. Mayella finally pleads that Tom Robinson did not rape her, but that her dad beat her. Atticus also asked that why she didn’t put up a better fight or run away from him. Mayella did not seem very confident in the things she kept saying. she starts to cry and weep in great amount. Also everyone now knows the truth and will now start to judge her differently. Now the only thing to wait for is the decision of the jury and to see if Tom Robinson is guilty or innocent.

Audience of One-Rise Against (Chpt. 17-20)

I chose this song to represent these chapters because the court room scene and the whole trial in general is intense. Some people close to those in the trial are feeling alone or unwanted. Even though they may be sitting in the audience of the trial,  they feel distant from those close to them. Jem and Scout may be feeling this way because Atticus is gone a lot. They are being criticized because of their dad’s stance in the trial. No one is alone.

How Perfect Can A Person Be?

May 20th, 2009

Aunt Alexandra came off to be some what of a perfectionist to me. It looked like things never came out to be the way that she planned they would. When she would do something she would have to look at it for a second time and think if it is right. Taking away some rights that Scout and Jem had was not best thing to do. But I am guessing that she did that to make sure they don’t get into trouble as much as before with Atticus. She seems to also have two sides of her, the nice side and the grumpy mean side. She is the type of person that you either love or hate. The kids also think that of her and they don’t like or want anything to do with Aunt Alexandra. Atticus also does not like her very much after what she said about Calpurina.

How Rude? Chapts. (13-16)

May 20th, 2009

Aunt Alexandra was a big part of this area of the book. She had came to the town and gone to the Finch’s home. Once she go there, the news that she told everyone was that she will be staying with them. Aunt Alexandra was nice at first, because she looked like she had priorities but it looked like those priorities were out of line. The thing that ticked me off was when she told Atticus to let Calpurina go because they wouldn’t have a use for her anymore. Attitcus’s response to that remark was no because he said that Calpurina was part of the family and she is not leaving. It doesn’t seem like the children like her very much. Scout dislikes her and so does Jem. I think the reason for that is that Alexandra has taken their freedom to do things away from them. It is weird how people that are not related to her love her so much but when it comes to the family, she is disliked by everyone. She is nothing like Atticus or Uncle Jack, maybe they dropped her when she was born or something, a lot of things could’ve happened.

The Trial of One (Chpt. 17-20)

May 19th, 2009

The trial of Tom Robinson has brought much trouble to the town of Maycomb. Throughout a day of testimony, many secrets of the case were revealed. The judge is being racist about it through. He doesn’t believe Tom Robinson’s side of the story, only listening to what Mayella has to say about it. If the judge were an honest one, he would take both sides into consideration. Sure, Tom Robinson could have avoided the whole situation by refusing to help Mayella with certain chores. He was being kind and helped her because he could see how miserable Mayella was about it. Bob Ewell is the guilty person in this case. He beat his daughter and doesn’t want to take the blame for it. What does that show to his other children, that it is okay to lie? That is not a good father.

Not only is this affecting the Robinson’s and Ewell’s, it is affecting those that are close to the case. If all were honest, the Finch’s would be able to spend more time together. They are separated from all the work Atticus is putting into the case. I think that the town of Maycomb needs more honesty when it comes to what occurs. You can’t hide the truth.

Homecoming by Hey Monday (Chpt. 13-16)

May 18th, 2009

http://www.imeem.com/heymonday/music/eKEDMoKg/hey-monda…

I chose this song because it represents all those coming and leaving Maycomb. Atticus is sometimes there, sometimes isn’t. Dill is always coming and leaving as he leaves. Aunt Alexandra is now permanently here. No one is for sure staying at the place the call home. Sometimes when they return, people see a different side of them. You never know who you are getting when they come back. The people want the person they know, and not an alter ego.

Aunt Alexandra (Chpt. 13-16)

May 17th, 2009

Aunt Alexandra has had a major influence on the story within this section. Some will think that she is a good person because they think that she is a civilized character and is bringing help into the Finch world. Others will argue to say that she is cruel and self centered. I say that she is positive in the fact that she is trying to help. She did move a distance to come and live with the Finch’s and help out in the the long absences of Atticus. Other than that, she really doesn’t do any good. She is harsh on Scout for being unfeminine and immature. Scout is young and still has a long life ahead of her. Aunt Alexandra is very racist and cruel. She thinks that Calpurnia is doing a bad job with the children, when really, she has given all she has to them. Tom Robinson’s case is having a major influence on the Finch family. Aunt Alexandra holds a different view on it than the rest of the family. Sure, everyone is entitled to have their own opinion on their view. Her’s is not justified or backed with facts. She has a lot to say about it but it really does no good. She needs to back up her facts on her opinions and the way she treats the family.

Boo finally comes out Chapters 5-9

May 15th, 2009

This part of the story is when their is a fire in Ms. Maudie house and Atticus tells Scout and Jem to go wait by the Radley gate. A few days back, Jem, Scout, and Dill were doing different things to get Boo Radley to come out. They first went and knock on his house to see if he would answer. He didn’t so they tried to put in a note through his window telling him to come out and play. They couldn’t do it because Atticus had caught them. That night, during the fire, Boo had unexpectedly come out! He went to where Scout was and covered her with a blanket. The next day, Scout noticed the blanket but had no idea where she had gotten it. Atticus explained to her that it was Boo Radley who gave her the blanket. He said that he saw him come out and put it on her. This is important because if Jem or Scout would have noticed Boo, then they would have finally had the chance to see him. They tried many things to get him to come out and he didn’t. When he came out on his own, they didn’t even see him. This would have changed the story greatly.
